Our Nerdy Post-Elopement Party With A D20 Dice Kissing Game
The picturesque backdrop for this special day was set against the serene Rotary Shelter at Fort Walla Walla Park in Walla Walla, Washington. The date to remember was June 11th, 2022. Capturing every moment were the talented photographers from Taggart Photography. Offbeat partners Randy Joe and Jeremy played a significant role in making this event truly unforgettable.
Tell us about the ceremony at your post-elopement party:
We didn’t put a lot of thought into finding an officiant for our post-elopement party ceremony, considering we were already legally married at that point. Under pressure, we asked our best man to step in and come up with a script. I offered him some ideas and shared the original elopement script as inspiration.
He rose to the occasion, crafting a unique ceremony that incorporated our love of Pokémon and injected a strong feminist tone by having me vow to be my husband’s superhero, mirroring his earlier promise to be mine in our elopement vows. Instead of the traditional ‘kiss the bride’ request or asking us to share a kiss, he simply told me to ‘kiss my man’, which we both appreciated given the short notice.
Tell us about the post-elopement party:
We opted out of traditional wedding customs, like bouquets and garter tosses, in favor of a more relaxed celebration. We did include a cake cutting ceremony, primarily because we’re suckers for sweet treats.
Our goal was to throw an epic party with friends and family, and that’s exactly what we got.
The festivities featured a DIY taco bar, board games, and some furry friends – my uncle brought his majestic pup Pascal, while my parents introduced us to their playful Cavalier King Charles puppy Merlin.
To add a creative twist, we covered the tables with brown butcher paper and provided crayons for our guests to get artistic. Unfortunately, despite initial plans to offer dancing as an option, technical issues prevented us from setting up a sound system or dance floor.
However, this minor hiccup didn’t dampen our spirits, and we still had a blast.
The party did have to be cut short due to the rain and chilly weather, but we didn’t mind one bit. The post-elopement celebration was an absolute hit!
Tell us about the D20 kissing game you played at your post-elopement party!
The highlight of our gathering wasn’t a traditional toast or ring of a bell, but rather an unconventional and hilarious approach. We had guests participate in rolling a massive inflatable D20 dice, which served as the catalyst for romantic gestures. This unique activity became the talk of the evening, with many considering it the most memorable part of the celebration.
In fact, I would argue that investing $25 in this unusual experience was one of the best decisions I made throughout the entire planning process.
D20 kiss game: Make wedding guests roll to get you to kiss!
When hosting dinner parties, the inevitable request to kiss guests goodnight can be overwhelming. To buy yourself some time, consider incorporating a unique icebreaker into your evening. Take Karen and Ian’s approach as an example: they used a large, inflatable 20-sided die (D20) to get their guests mingling and laughing.
