Look Inside David Harbours Revamped New York Loft Full Of Rugs
David Harbour, the talented actor behind the gritty chief of police in Netflix’s Stranger Things, has a secret passion – design. His recently revamped apartment in Nolita’s historic Wagon Wheel Factory building is a testament to his creative eye. With the help of Kyle O’Donnell from Gramercy Design, Harbour transformed the space into a stunning abode that seamlessly blends industrial chic with cozy comforts.
What stands out is how he cleverly incorporated rugs to bring warmth and texture to the former factory’s rugged ambiance, resulting in an interior that’s both livable and breathtaking. Take a look!
Entry Hallway
The industrial heritage of this radiant space is a testament to the transformative power of design. Behind its modern facade lies a history of heavy industry, with tin ceilings stripped from decommissioned factories in Pennsylvania being refinished in crisp white. O’Donnell’s keen eye for detail allowed her to recreate the charm of a vintage NYC loft, updating it with contemporary conveniences that harmoniously suit David’s lifestyle.
The entry hallway floor is set aglow by vintage oriental rugs, injecting an old-school vibe with fashionably funky flair and plush comfort. These curated textiles bring invigorating pops of color to the otherwise monochromatic surroundings, a masterful stroke of design that elevates the space.
Bedroom
Harbour’s bedroom is a masterpiece of light and texture, thanks to the clever combination of oversized windows, 11-foot-high ceilings, and an all-white aesthetic. The wooden floor is almost invisible beneath the luminous white area rug, which adds to the space’s sense of calm and serenity. The shaggy pile of the carpet creates a truly intimate atmosphere, making it a joy to walk barefoot across its soft surface.
And in the ‘cozy corner’, a sheep skin throw on a vintage walnut chair perfectly complements the texture of the rug, inviting one to linger and relax.
Living Room
In the living room of Harbour’s place, modernity subtly blends with vintage charm. Behind the wall of shelving and lush greenery lies a cleverly hidden surprise – a retractable projector screen discreetly tucked away in the tin ceiling above an oak and iron storage cabinet. When unfurled, it transforms into an intimate setting for movie nights or cozy gatherings.
The warm brown couch, harmoniously paired with the rich red oriental rug and additional sheep hides, invites relaxation and conversation.
Kitchen
Max Burkhalter’s photography captures the essence of this unique kitchen design, which began with a striking stove in a vibrant green hue. Despite being an occasional cook, David Harbour was enamored with the piece and chose to build the décor around it. To complement the stove, a diverse array of plants were added, mirroring its exceptional shade. Quartzite counters help tie the room’s color scheme together, while a classic Farmhouse wooden table replaces a traditional island.
This design serves as a testament to the simplicity and effectiveness of uncomplicated solutions.
Bathroom
Photography by Max Burkhalter The bathroom’s unique ambiance sets it apart from the rest of the apartment. Without windows to illuminate the space, David and his partner envisioned a moody home spa, which they successfully brought to life with deep blue tiles, an arched ceiling, and a shining brass regulator faucet featuring four taps.
The abundance of faucets even caught David’s attention, as he noted that it helps him fill the bathtub faster – a practical feature or not, the overall aesthetic is certainly impressive. A stunning Antique Persian Kirman Rug
