Our Fairy Tale wedding at a glance:
Our whimsical Enchanted Forest wedding theme was a rustic reimagining of classic Disney and Fairy Tale motifs. As part of the meticulous planning process, I took on the challenge of creating every decoration, bouquet, boutonnière, and table setting by hand, drawing from my creative resources to bring this unique vision to life.

As I curated the arrangements, each one was infused with its own unique narrative, reminiscent of a timeless fairy tale. The creative process began by scouring Goodwill and other thrift stores for a treasure trove of materials, which were then meticulously refurbished to harmonize with my carefully chosen palette of gold, olive green, and black.

As we exchanged vows, our celebration began with an intimate procession of flower children – my niece and nephews ranging in age from 4 to 16. The sweet serenade of Weezer and Hayley Williams’ rendition of ‘Rainbow Connection’ accompanied their arrival down the aisle, setting a joyful tone for what was to come. Next, our wedding party – comprised of both sets of siblings, close friends, and loved ones – made their way to an acoustic performance of ‘Dos Oruguitas’ from Disney’s ‘Encanto.
‘ The atmosphere grew more sentimental as Josh and his mother took their places. I myself donned a traditional Filipino Barong shirt and walked hand-in-paw with my loyal canine companion, Kahlúa Jean Spears, a rescue pit bull whose presence filled the air with love. The ceremony took on a whimsical touch as our close friend officiant wove together quotes from Steven Universe and timeless fairy tales.
Meanwhile, two dear friends brought ‘Isn’t It Love’ – another beloved Steven Universe track – to life, filling the space with warmth and affection.

A highlight of the event was our 360-degree photo booth, which brought endless laughter and memorable moments to the guests. To complement this interactive experience, we set up outdoor games such as Jenga, Connect Four, and cornhole, offering a fun-filled atmosphere that had everyone engaged and entertained.
What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding?
As a first-generation child of immigrants, navigating the complexities of family dynamics can be especially challenging when it comes to significant life events like weddings. For me, getting engaged was met with disownment from my own family – a painful reality I’ve had to confront and cope with. The most difficult aspect was accepting that my parents would not attend my special day, leaving me feeling lost and unheard.
Over the past two years, attending family gatherings while knowing they wouldn’t be present for this milestone has been a constant reminder of their disapproval. While it’s taken time for me to come to terms with this reality, I’ve been fortunate to have a supportive network of loved ones – including my brothers and chosen family – who were there for me on my big day.
