Your Princess Is In This Castle: An Elegant Super Mario Wedding

In a unique celebration of their love, Elizabeth, Global Technical Marketing Coordinator, exchanged vows with her partner Steve, who works in Landscape Supply. The offbeat bride’s special day took place on September 10, 2016, at the picturesque Cambridge Mill in Cambridge, Ontario, and later at the adventurous Chicopee Tube Park in Kitchener, Ontario. The photos of this unforgettable event were captured by Andrew Miller.

We blended our love for video games with elegant sophistication by planning a DIY Super Mario wedding. As we’re both in our thirties, we aimed to strike a balance between whimsy and refinement. To achieve this, we incorporated accents of yellow, orange, red, and green into the bridal party’s attire, which harmonized beautifully with the grey main color scheme.

These touches were carried through to the bouquets, shoes, jewelry, and signage within the venue, adding a playful nod to our shared love of Super Mario.

Our intimate ceremony took place at the picturesque Cambridge Mill in Ontario. To add a pop of color to the ambiance, we scattered multicolored flower petals along the paths in shades of red, yellow, and orange. The soundtrack for our special day came from YouTube, featuring orchestrated Super Mario songs like the iconic Super Mario World Theme, Dire Dire Docks, and Bomb Bomb Battlefield. These nostalgic tunes perfectly captured the playful essence of our love story.

As a Wiccan, I have a deep connection to the symbolism behind certain elements. Steve had gifted me a broom on my 30th birthday, which holds great significance in our relationship. The broom represents the threshold of our new home together and jumping it signifies entering a new chapter in our lives, leaving behind old patterns and habits. This ritual symbolizes our commitment to each other and marks the beginning of this new phase.

A heartwarming moment for us was when Sophia, our sweet flower girl, asked if she could sign our marriage certificate. Although not legally possible, her enthusiasm and eagerness to be a part of our special day warmed our hearts. After we signed, Sophia wrapped us in a loving hug, expressing her joy at seeing us married.

At the Chicopee Tube Park in Kitchener, Ontario, our relaxed reception featured self-serve hors d’oeuvres and dessert bars, as well as a live band, Happy Pappy, playing hits from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. The atmosphere was electric with a photo booth provided by PictureX in Toronto, which became an instant hit with our guests. To cater to various dietary needs, we made all the desserts ourselves, ensuring that everyone had access to gluten-free, diabetic-friendly, and vegan options.

Our DIY approach extended to decorations, including filling gumball machines as gifts and sewing 25 table runners. We wanted every aspect of the wedding to have a personal touch. In fact, we even arrived early at the reception to personally thank each guest for attending. It was heartwarming to see the kids having a blast with the photo booth, dancing, coloring, and just enjoying themselves.

One of our fondest memories was our first dance to ‘Dance Me To The End of Love’ by The Civil Wars, followed by the joyous throwing of toys instead of traditional wedding favors. We opted for Thwomp and Chomp Chomp, which sent the kids into a frenzy!

The picturesque ceremony took place at the historic Cambridge Mill, while the reception was held at the unique Chicopee Tube Park. To capture the special moments, Andrew Miller was behind the lens as photographer. A photo booth by PictureX added an extra layer of fun to the celebration. The bride and her bridesmaids looked stunning in their David’s Bridal gowns, while the groom and his groomsmen donned tuxedos from Moores Clothing.

Custom tie clips from KnackWorks and cufflinks from JRocks Jewelry added a touch of personality to their attire. The bride’s beautiful garter was designed by Scarborough Rose. Sweet treats were provided by Prairie Girl Bakery, with additional delights courtesy of Haus of Desserts in the form of decadent truffles. The groom’s shoe design was a standout feature, created by Lake Studio.

To complete the look, the bride relied on Ryver Vande Pol for her bridal makeup and Russell Bally for her hairstyle. Her bridesmaids also received beautiful hairstyles from Romeo Salon & Spa.
