How I Crafted My Perfect-For-Me Bachelorette Party (Including Games, Food, And More Games!)
As I prepare to say ‘I do’ in just four days, my mind has been filled with memories from my recent bachelorette party. Known as a ‘hen night’ in some circles, it was the perfect celebration of me and my friends having an absolute blast together. While personal preferences may vary – some enjoy bar hopping, comedy shows, and beer flights, while others prefer sleepovers with board games – there’s no one-size-fits-all formula for a successful bachelor/ette party.
The key is to make it your own and create unforgettable experiences that will be cherished long after the big day. In my case, we indulged in rosé champagne, savored delicious food, and played plenty of games with our partner in crime, Cads About Matrimony…
Stage one: pre-partying at our hotel
As I looked around at my five closest friends, all of whom I’ve known for over two decades, I felt an overwhelming sense of comfort and relaxation. We’d converged on a hotel room for a sleepover-style pre-party, complete with drinks, games, and endless laughter. The atmosphere was electric, thanks in large part to the games we played – including one that had become a staple during my engagement: Cads About Matrimony.
It’s a game that never fails to bring out our competitive sides, and I’d been waiting for the perfect opportunity to break it out with my girls. That night, surrounded by good friends, great snacks, and even better champagne, was the perfect setting.
Stage two: shove food in mouth
Our evening began with a visit to Bar Siena in Chicago, where we indulged in small plates, pizza, and refreshing drinks. The highlight of the night was undoubtedly my decision to don a tiara – an impromptu choice that added a touch of whimsy to our dining experience. As we sated our appetites, we discovered we had eaten far too much for comfort. To counteract this culinary indulgence, we bundled up and took a leisurely stroll through the crisp night air, enjoying the city’s vibrant atmosphere.
Later, we found ourselves at a local bar, where we savored innovative tiki cocktails and even managed to squeeze in some dancing on the tiny dance floor. After working off a few of those extra calories, we reluctantly retreated back to our hotel room, acknowledging that our youthful antics were better suited for younger folks.
Stage three: MORE GAMES
As much as I enjoyed dancing the night away, my true pleasure was hanging out with friends in the hotel room. We transformed into our comfiest selves, cranked up some tunes, and took turns donning the bachelorette tiara, whipping up drinks, and engaging in more games. In fact, we got so creative that we even came up with some unique combinations playing ‘Cards About Matrimony’.
I can confidently say that plenty of laughter ensued, especially when my BFF Chad pretended to be our very own stripper – it was a real showstopper!
Stage four: Day-after brunch
After a late night filled with laughter and shenanigans, we set out on the hunt for brunch in Chicago. Not having made any reservations, we took a chance and snagged a table at The Little Goat’s bar area. We even managed to coax my partner to join us via text! Our meal consisted of a mix of international delights, including bi bim bop breakfast bowls, shrimp and cheesy grits, yogurt and granola, and okonomiyaki. Replete and content, we headed back home for well-deserved food coma naps.
While my hen party may have stuck to the script, it was tailored to my unique tastes: great grub, relaxed vibes with my closest friends, and games that bring me joy. If you’re looking for a way to shake off wedding jitters or simply have some fun with your squad before or after the big day, I highly recommend the Cads About Matrimony Poly Pack.
It’s the perfect antidote to wedding-related stress and eliminates all pretenses.
There’s nothing quite like poking fun at this most revered institution to keep things in perspective. If you’re planning a bachelorette party, what does your night or weekend look like?
